Goss0mer is a 23 year old singer/songwriter from Canterbury, Kent. From writing songs with her childhood best friend; to releasing her debut single, 'crack open a tinny'; music has played an intrinsic role throughout her life. Maddi Lane garnered the alias 'goss0mer' - from, 'gossamer', or spiders' silk - after her teenage Instagram handle stuck. The ambiguity of a thread less dense than steel, yet, weight for weight, stronger and tougher than it, resonates with her sense of identity and creative process. An honest, relatable narrative surrounding Britain’s dependence on alcohol, ‘crack open a tinny’ provides a candid, stream of consciousness style snapshot of the experience of casual drinking. Bubbly, staccato synth carries optimistic vocals, while the underlying melody is filled with a wistful, happy-sad acquiescence.
I grew up in Kent, attending primary school and secondary school in Canterbury before moving to Bristol. I developed and nurtured my appreciation for music throughout my childhood and adolescence by performing in as many concerts, gigs, and open mics as I could. I performed in and around Canterbury with my best friend, Martha Eve, and as part of a band with school friends. My love for creating music was shaped by growing up in a small town like Canterbury, because it pushed me to aspire for greatness and cultivate my lifelong passion.
Amy Winehouse, Amaarae, Corinne Bailey Rae, Deto Black, Doja Cat, ELIZA, Elli Ingram, Fleetwood Mac, Frank Ocean, Joni Mitchell, Jorja Smith, KT Tunstall, Lily Allen, London Grammar, Martha Eve, Mahalia, Pink Pantheress, Rihanna, SZA, Tems, Willow
I wrote this song while working a brutal hospitality job in the aftermath of Covid. Synonymous with the experience of many hospitality slaves (as I fondly call us), I struggled to maintain friendships outside of work, because I catered to a schedule outside the realm of reality. In this liminal space, where shifts could range from 8 to 14 hours, alcohol was an underhand spoonful of sugar to help the medicine go down. Since I couldn’t unwind with friends from the 9-5 orbit, I would go out drinking with my team after work more often than was economical for my wage. This is an experience shared by many due to the resulting pressure of Covid on the hospitality industry, and being broke and seldom sober influenced the narrative of this track.
Bristol, UK - System10 productions is thrilled to announce the release of the debut single, ‘crack open a tinny’, from goss0mer, available everywhere January 7th, 2023.
The chirpy top-line juxtaposes the wavering lyrics, which flit between questions like, ‘Will I always depend / On not being alone?’, and, ‘Nine quid for a double / Mr barman, are you sure?’
‘I’ve always struggled with FOMO and setting boundaries, and I guess this song encapsulates that, kind of. Casual drinking is an integral part of British culture – we’re proud of our pubs, and our pints, and our partying. But there’s fine line between discipline and dependence; I think there’s a collective consciousness of how easy it is to lose control.’

The single is the first track to be released from goss0mer’s debut EP, to follow later in 2023. Join us in raising a glass (or a tinny) to the pending success of this up and coming artist.
