Knuckle Introduces The R&B Knockout: Alysha

Singer-songwriter Alysha brings a new wave to the UK’s R&B scene with her relatable lyrics, soothing sounds, and charming tone.

Falling into music at the age of 10, the London-based tune maker already has a bag full of tracks under her belt, some of which include hits like David Attenborough, Si Me Quieres feat. Yxng Dave and Sugar Sweet which holds a whopping 1.4 million streams on Spotify. Fitting to say that at the age of 20, Alysha has made quite a name for herself in such a short amount of time, perfect for London’s growing bunch of talent.

“I started creating music at around 10 years old, but I only started taking it seriously, going into sessions and meeting producers etc, about four years ago. My dream was always music, I grew up surrounded by it and as a kid one of my favourite TV channels was MTV, I’d sit there for hours, singing and dancing to music videos.”

Believing not to have a certain style herself, it’s clear that the singer has a distinctive message around her music that takes a deep dive into teenage love affairs. Further creating a realm of relatability towards her artistry, “I just want everyone to feel who I am and what I’m singing.”

Earlier this year, Alysha took to Miami to work on her first album in style and hints at a range of exciting things to come in 2023. Yet besides music, a successful modelling career is in the making as you can previously see her on the cover of Rollacoaster SS22, Galore June 2022, and a feature in the cutting-edge Schön! Magazine.

Questioning whether modelling ever interferes with her music career, Alysha stated that “I and the team around me think that (modelling) works well with my music, but the problem is that on my social media it’s hard to market both at the same time to people who follow me for one thing and not the other.” However, it quickly becomes clear that Alysha is keen to just “write, write, write,” and push herself to explore different areas of her voice, subjects to talk about and eventually win a Grammy or Brit Award someday.

Championing such a talent at such a young age comes with its challenges, especially when entering a crowded market where uniqueness is praised. When asked had Alysha ever experienced a moment where she felt like giving up, an authentic yet respected answer followed, “I feel like that quite often, to be honest, but every time I find a new song or I start singing, I fall in love with music all over again and then it encourages me to make more. My first track was David Attenborough, and my first live event was my EP launch, and since then my voice has matured and so has my music.”

Since gladly sticking with her dream, a flurry of collaborations has been formed with the likes of Yxng Dave and Aaron Taylor, to name a few, a great way to push emerging artists and challenge what else her music can stand for. “I loved working with all of them, they’re all so so so kind and talented,” says Alysha, “but I don’t really have a dream artist that I want to collaborate with. I want to collaborate with any artist I listen to if it’s someone who will go well with my vibe.” I applaud Alysha on her decision to mindfully collaborate with people she trusts will fit into HER style, consistently keeping that trusted bond between her message and listeners.

Although plans for the next year remain top secret, Knuckle Magazine prompts you to keep an eye on this R&B knockout in 2023, as we are sure to say this is only just the beginning for Alysha.
